Do not fear the reproach of mere mortals
or be terrified by their insults...
I, even I, am he who comforts you.
Who are you that you fear mere mortals,
human beings who are but grass,
13 that you forget the Lord your Maker,
who stretches out the heavens
and who lays the foundations of the earth...
Isaiah 51: 6, 12-13

It isn't that other people can't frighten or harm us, it's that when we belong to the Lord, He hears our cries, and will take action.
If some situation in your life is oppressive, cry out to the Lord and look to Him. He will come to your aide. The initial gift may come in the form of endurance; we are often given the strength to bear some life situation that is difficult. It always comes with the promise of deliverance; our God will rescue us in His time. In the interim, we can trust He is at work and will see us through.
